SOD: GELDART Grabs SOD Cash at I-96 Speedway

For Immediate Release – Ken Pelkie, Sprints On Dirt, Holt, MI
DATE: July 8/05 // TRACK: I-96 Speedway

With a night off on the All Star Circuit of Champions trail, seventeen year old Cody Geldart from Mossley, Ontario took advantage of the opportunity to travel to I-96 Speedway to “tune-up” for the “Full Throttle Nationals” scheduled on the half mile August 19 & 20. The results were as good as it gets as the young Canadian hot shoe blasted into the lead from his fourth place starting position to sweep the twenty lap Engine Pro, Sprints On Dirt series presented by Total Seal “A” Main.

With J.R. Stewart and Dain Naida pacing the twenty-one car starting field to the green flag, the duo accelerated through turns one and two side by side. As they entered turn three, Geldart, who was riding on the high side of the track used the momentum to carry him by both Naida and Stewart out of four and into the lead. From that point on, the race was for second.

Dustin Daggett moved from fifth into the runner-up spot on lap three but could never mount a serious challenge to Geldart as Stewart, Naida, and Gregg Dalman settled into third through fifth. Kyle Patrick moved up from ninth to challenge Dalman and Naida after a mid race caution for a blown engine on the Ryan Grubaugh machine but could not maintain the advantage and would finish sixth. Sean Robinson, Brett Mann, Matt Alloway, and Mark Broughman rounded out the top ten.

Incidents during hot laps eliminated the machines of Davey Brown with his second blown engine in a week, and a hard crash eliminated the Tim Norman mount for the night with heavy damage. Norman substituted in the Kyle Poortinga machine for the evening as SOD rules allow driver changes up to heat race time, thus allowing Norman to maintain a slim point lead over second place Ben Rutan.

SOD moves on to the tight quarter mile of Owendale Speedway July 9 for a twenty-five lap affair before the running of the mid-season championship at Crystal Motor Speedway on July 16. For all the latest news be sure to log on to the official website of SOD at www.sprintsondirt.com .

Preliminary action saw Dustin DAGGETT take the Ohsweken Speedway sponsored heat race #1 while the XYZ Machining heat race #2 went to Ben RUTAN. Rookie Louie CARUFEL captured the Engler Machining & Tool heat race #3 over Sean Robinson while Matt ALLOWAY captured the COMP Cams / Lane Automotive 4th and final heat race over Brett Mann. Ryan GRUBAUGH took the Engine Pro / Total Seal “B” Main.
