THOROLD, ONTARIO … Merrittville Speedway is preparing for its biggest annual weekend of the season with racing action both Saturday July 30th and Monday August 1st.
Modern Landfill Night July 30th will once again feature the 5 divisions of the Weekly Racing Series – the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds, Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen, Dwarf Cars/ Mod Lites, Hoosier Stocks and Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.
When race fans enter the grandstand area on the final night of July, they will surely marvel at some of the trucks on display as part of the Trucker Appreciation Night Show & Shine. The first Show and Shine was a highlight of last season and it was a tough choice for best appearing truck. All of the entries did laps on the Speedway with the fans voting for their favorite in a contest conducted by Merrittville’s announcing team of Erik Tomas and Clint Geoffrey with the fan’s pick the 1982 Peterbilt of former Sportsmen competitor Bill Baker of WA Baker Trucking.
“We had quite a turn-out last season eventhough the event was rain delayed,” informs (GM) Erica Bicknell, “ the individual owner/operators and the corporate trucks on display were quite impressive … they take a lot of pride in their vehicles.”
Drivers with a commercial license are reminded that with proof of license, all truckers will receive a $3.oo discount July 30th on their grandstand admission.

Pete Cosco Haulage of St. Catharines once again will present Merrittville Speedway’s most prestigious 358 Modified event - Monday August 1st – in the 13th Annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial Modified Classic.
Traditionally it is one of the highest paying stops along the Advance Auto Parts 358 Modified Super DIRT Series with lap and bonus money available to the starting field.
When that field takes the green flag it will have a new look – the event will only be 50 laps in length with caution laps not counting.
Since 1972, Merrittville Speedway has held a Syracuse Qualifier and each year the event continues to draw race teams from across DIRT Motorsports to the challenge the Thorold track’s stars.
“Race fans are in for an awesome show,” boasts Bicknell adding, “all the laps will be green flag laps – and with the shorter distance … the drivers won’t have the luxury of waiting to make their moves later in the race.”
Merrittville Speedway has held 50 lap Super DIRT Series events previously. In 2001, Azurix North America presented the Triple 50’s event in celebration of the Speedway’s 50th Anniversary and each segment was quite a race in itself.
The Monday August 1st Civic Holiday event also will see the Hoosier Stocks, Dwarf Cars/Mod Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders in action with the Hoosier Stocks set for 30 laps. Both the grandstand and pit gates open at 4:00 PM with the 358 Modified Time Trials set to start at 6:30.
Merrittville Speedway and Cosco Haulage will be welcoming Club Castropignano for their second taste of dirt racing. The home of Merrittville Speedway’s Awards Banquets will be assisting in presenting an Italian Night prior to race time complete with an Italian Dinner from 4:00 to 6:15.
Tickets for the Italian pre-race dinner will be available from the Speedway Office during the week or on a race night starting June 25th for $10 plus the cost of an admission ticket.
Merrittville Speedway has lap sponsorships available for $30 for the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds and $10 for the Hoosier Stocks. At the $30 level, a Pasta Dinner Ticket is included. Other opportunities available include heat sponsors, halfway leader, first Merrittville Regular or any idea that you may have.
Race Fans have purchased laps over the years to cheer on their favorites and the business community has used it as an economical means of reaching race fans at the best family entertainment in Niagara.
