Micks PowerWater Ford ready for CASCAR Western swing

"We were fortunate last year and made two visits to the podium"
By Bruce F. Mehlenbacher

July 18, 2005, Mt. Albert, ON - With his PowerWater 2005 Micks Motorsports Ford, Kerry Micks is heading west for this weekend's MOPAR 500 at Race City Motorsport Park. The veteran driver is looking forward to another strong finish at Calgary's high banked, half-mile oval along with his first visit to Sun Valley Motor Speedway in Vernon, BC.

"We were fortunate last year at Calgary and the PowerWater Motorsports Ford made two visits to the podium, said Micks. "We always run strong at Race City and this year should be no exception. It's a long ride, over 5,000 miles to the west and back, but it's usually a good trip. Last year we were able to win a 100-lap qualifier at Calgary and placed a very respectable third in the main event."

Micks, last weekend's Molson Indy winner currently sits third in the 2005 CASCAR Super Series Points Championship, and the PowerWater Micks Motorsports Ford has won two events this season.

"Last season's race at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park was really hard on tires," Micks continued. "We had to pit four times and were very lucky not to get a flat under green flag which plagued a lot of teams. The team gave me great pit stops and made the right decisions with the handling problems to keep us on the lead lap and in contention for the win. Our last pit was with 100 laps to go and most teams pitted with 70 laps to go. I ran out of tires at the end and (Dave) Whitlock and (Mark) Dilley had more left than I did. With 20 laps to go, Pete Shepherd was running second behind me and I thought the two of us could draft to the end and stay out front. Unfortunately, Pete got a flat and Dave and Mark passed us both. I could keep my car on the bottom, but at that point they had the tires and horsepower to pass on the outside."

Three-time CASCAR Super Series National champion Dave Whitlock won his fourth career MOPAR Parts 300 at Calgary's Race City Motorsport followed closely by Mark Dilley in second.

The CASCAR Super Series, MOPAR 500 Weekend at Race City Motorsport Park, Canada's finest high banked, half-mile oval, will take place July 22-23 in Calgary, Alberta.
