CASCAR: Micks Drives PowerWater Ford to Molson Indy Win

"We finally had it right on"

July 10, 2005, Toronto, ON - Driving his PowerWater 2005 Micks Motorsports Ford, veteran driver Kerry Micks won Sunday's CASCAR Super Series ATTO 100 on the temporary road circuit at Exhibition Place as part of the Molson Indy Toronto.

"This was at the top of our list for races to win and I can't believe we actually did it," stated Micks after the event. "The team was unbelievable, they worked extremely hard rebuilding the car after our wreck at Mosport. The PowerWater Ford was strong all day and it didn't go away."

The CASCAR Super Series veteran started 11th in the field for the 36-lap race and passed race leader Don Thomson Jr. with seven laps to go en route to his first-ever Molson Indy win. It was the CASCAR Super Series' seventh consecutive appearance, this year as part of the 20th Anniversary edition of the Molson Indy on the 11-turn, 2.824-km street circuit in Toronto

"This was just our second race with this car. It's the product of years of input and experience and we finally had it right on. I was backing off a little bit early but about mid-way, it looked like there wasn't going to be a caution so I knew I had to get going after Donnie (Thomson). Obviously, I caught him pretty fast because his car went away pretty severely."

Micks took the lead at the end of the long Lakeshore Boulevard straightaway on lap 29. Once in front, Micks was able to build a solid lead. Micks took the checkered flag 8.4-seconds ahead of Peter Gibbons, while Don Thomson Jr. hung on for the final podium position.

The Molson Indy win is Micks' second of the season in the PowerWater Micks Motorsports Ford moves him into third position in the 2005 CASCAR Super Series Points Championship.
