Ken Pelkie, Sprints On Dirt, Holt, MI

The Engine Pro, Sprints On Dirt series presented by Total Seal made a stop at Owendale Speedway Saturday night in the Michigan thumb area and when the dust settled, “the Fastest Cop On Dirt” was standing in victory lane. Joe Bares of Traverse City, Michigan drove the DCR chassis, Rycenge Electric, Altron Automation, Lubrication Engineers, Prestige Painting machine to his first ever Sprints On Dirt Feature win on the tight confines of the quarter mile oval.

Several caution periods slowed the event which resembled a miniature version of a NASCAR race at Bristol including a late race incident involving race long leader Ben Rutan that opened the door for the win by Bares. Gregg Dalman finished second with Bill Johnson third. Tim Norman driving the Kyle Poortenga 84 came home fourth with Mark Broughman running up from seventeenth to close out the top five. Rookie of the year contender Louie Carufel was sixth followed by Aaron Shaffer, Cody Geldart, Ernie Kuehneman, and Ben Rutan who rounded out the top ten.

SOD moves on to Crystal Motor Speedway next Saturday night for their first visit of the 2005 season and the running of the 40 lap “Mid Season Championship”. Be sure to log on to the official website of SOD at www.sprintsondirt.com for all the latest news on Michigan’s premier sprint car series.
