MARK SWAIN HAS STRONG OUTING IN GE NIGHTHAWK CHEVROLET ON MOSPORT ROAD COURSE
By JAJ Entertainment
June 20, 2005. Full of enthusiasm Mark Swain and the GE Nighthawk Chevrolet arrived at Mosport International Raceway ready for an exciting weekend on CASCAR Super Series Racing. There was limited time to prepare for the challenging 10 turn road course just outside Toronto but with Mark's road racing experience the team was hopeful for a good outing.
The GE Nighthawk team turned the first laps of the weekend during Saturday practice and qualifying. With continued adjusting the team learned more about the car and Mark managed to gain the 16th starting position on the 33 car grid. It's easy to begin racing an individual rather than using the track and letting the race come to you and that's something the team was determined to avoid.
Mosport is very much a rhythm racetrack and Mark tried to settle in quickly as the green flag waved. Mark and the GE Nighthawk Chevy managed to gain a few positions in the early going and were racing hard with the CASCAR Super Series regular competitors and came home with a solid 12th place finish.
"This is a good outing for us" claimed the driver afterwards. "This program came together very quickly and even though we didn't have a lot of track time we had a productive weekend. We have definitely learned some things about the car and my driving style that we'll be able to apply to our next outing at the Molson Indy weekend.”
Mid America Racing President Dave Didero commented "it was a good race for Mark and the GE Nighthawk car. There's barely a mark on it so we'll be able to get it ready for the next event quickly. I'm very pleased with how this team performed today.”
The CASCAR Super Series competes at historic oval tracks like Delaware Speedway, Cayuga Speedway along with the challenging road course at Mosport International Raceway and also on the temporary street circuit at the Toronto Molson Indy.
