ALSTAR: Peterborough Summary & Results

Chris Morrow earns his first career ALSTAR Late Model Series win in the Pennzoil 75 at Peterborough Speedway

PETERBOROUGH, ON – Chris Morrow made his first-ever trip to the Shouldice ALSTAR Series’ victory lane on Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway. The sophomore ALSTAR racer started sixth in the field of 24 at the 1/3-mile, high-banked oval.
Morrow passed polesitter and early race leader Richard Holmes on lap 9 of the Pennzoil 75 and led the rest of the 75-lap race. But it wasn’t an easy win for the Minesing, ON resident. Morrow’s #11 Morrow Electric / Edenvale Flying Club Chevy was chased throughout the second-half of the race by Steve Tiemersma of Newmarket, ON.
“We’ve had a lot of opportunities to win races,” said Morrow, who is in his second year of ALSTAR racing. “There’s nothing worse than looking in your mirror and seeing Steve Tiemersma on your bumper for the whole race. But he raced us clean and we’re really happy to win one of these things.”
Tiemersma, who won the ALSTAR series race at Delaware Speedway earlier in the season, was all over Morrow in his Aurora Automotive / Pennzoil Pontiac and challenged for the lead on several occasions, but never managed to complete the pass.
A mad scramble with just two laps to go spelled trouble for Tiemersma, however, as defending ALSTAR Series champ Robbie Thompson and Rob MacDonnell were able to get past him. Thompson took the checkered flag in second place, but was later disqualified from the final results after trouble in tech lane. The post-race change meant that MacDonnell was awarded second-place in the Pennzoil 75 and Steve Tiemersma was scored in third after his strong run.
In earlier ALSTAR heat race action at Peterborough Speedway, checkered flags went to: Jeff Cassidy, Alan Inglis, Steve Tiemersma, Derrick Tiemersma, Mike Almand and Jim Molenhuis.
The next Shouldice Designer Stone ALSTAR Late Model Series race takes place on Saturday, August 20 at Barrie Speedway.
As part of the lead-up to the race at Barrie, many fans and supporters of the ALSTAR Series will be taking part in the first annual ALSTAR Charity Ride, with the proceeds donated to the War Amps. The ride will begin early on Saturday at Shouldice Designer Stone in Shallow Lake and will make its way to Barrie Speedway, in the afternoon, for Round #11 of the Shouldice ALSTAR Series. More information about the ride is available at www.alstarseries.com.
