CALGARY, AB - The Techworks Engineering-RSport Rally Team of driver Scott Trinder and navigator Bill Westhead head for the start of the 32nd annual Rocky Mountain Rally this coming weekend in Calgary, Alberta. The Rocky Mountain Rally is one of the oldest continuously run events in Norh America and is the second round in the 2005 Western Canadian Rally Championship. This year^"s event has drawn an impressive field of over thirty-five entries representing a broad array of driving talent and a wide range of racing vehicles.
Currently resting in second place overall atop the Western Canadian rally Championship, the Techworks Engineering-RSport Rally Team head into the event with a very clear objective.
"Our goal is to win the 2005 Championship and nothing less," stated Trinder. "Therefore earning valuable series points is more important to us than an outright victory at this time."
"In order to win the Western Championship, one of the most important things we could do right now is to bring an intact car to the finish line so that it's ready to go for the next event, which is just three weeks later," Westhead observed. "Rocky is just the second event in the six-event championship, so risking it all to go for an overall event win this early in the season could jeopardize this plan."
Meanwhile, two of the team's long-term partners: Techworks Engineering and Pennzoil, have stepped up with increased support for the proven championship-winning team.
"Without the dedicated support from Techworks Engineering and Pennzoil, we would have been kept on the sidelines as mere spectators at this year's event," Trinder commented. "This would have placed tremendous pressure on our team, as poor results or a no-show from only one event may be discarded in the championship points total."
While the team's production based Subaru WRX is already a proven race-winning platform with many international rally victories to it's credit, at the hands of an experienced, championship winning driver like Trinder -- and under the guidance of a state-of-the-art tuning and preparation facility like Techworks Engineering -- this car has been transformed into a serious championship contender.
"Our partnership with Techworks Engineering is a critical component of our team's strategy in the Open Class for modified production vehicles," Trinder confided. "Their experience with development and dedication to the production of high quality performance parts, while maintaining reliable operating parameters, meshes perfectly with our team's overall goal. We want to finish consistently at the top of the field and, while raw power is great, reliability coupled with power is the optimal mix. I am supremely confident in Techworks' ability to manage this fine balance."
