VERNON, BC - Derek Polack of Stoney Plain Alberta began his quest for a 2005 championship with a dominating win at Sun Valley Speedway in Sundays 200 lap race. Derek piloted his Bulldog Protective Coatings/Comp Shop Monte Carlo from the pole position to the checker flag leading all but 28 laps on the Vernon half mile track.
James VanDomselaar Jr. of Fort Saskatchewan was one of only 2 other drivers to share the lead during the race. James Jr. took the lead at lap 130 and lead for 18 laps but a mechanical glitch allowed Polack to regain the top spot. Wade Lee a three time Western Champion was the only other leader during the event.
2004 Champion Kevin Dowler of Sherwood Park Alberta suffered a set-back in lap one when contact with pole sitter Polack forced him to the pits for 51 laps. The EMCO Ford driver was able to return and managed to salvage an 11th, place finish but hard work is ahead for this team as they try to earn their 5th Title.
