NASCAR: VILLENEUVE FAST ENOUGH IN QUALIFYING

Working under the stock car microscope, Jacques Villeneuve, driving for Bill Davis Racing in the No. 27 unicef Toyota Camry, posted the fourth fastest time of those drivers who must qualifying for Sunday's UAW-Ford 500 based on time.

Villeneuve was 42nd fastest in the first practice session, posting a lap of 51.112 seconds, 187.353 mph. He picked up the pace by four tenths of a second, posting the 24th fastest time in the second and final practice before qualifying on Saturday.

Between the two practice sessions, Villeneuve qualified for the Craftsman Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 in 1oth.

"I've been working on my line quite a bit between the Truck Series and Cup Series," Villeneuve said when asked where his efforts hand concentrated. "It's important to find that last hundredth of a second, because that could be the difference between racing and going home. The truck and car definitely race a lot different than each other, but that one constant is the fastest line."

Asked about the difference between the two racing vehicles Villenueve said, "The truck moves around a little bit more in the draft than the car does. Racing at Las Vegas a couple weeks ago is obviously a lot different than coming here to Talladega, but I am still trying to get as much information as I can."

Qualifying for the UAW-Ford 500 is tomorrow at 11:15 am Central time followed by the Craftsman Truck Series race at 3 on SPEED.
