OHSWEKEN: OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY TO CROWN SPRINT CAR TRACK CHAMPION IN 2005

By Ken Pelkie, for Ohsweken Speedway

OHSWEKEN, ON - With eleven sprint car races scheduled at Ohsweken Speedway, representing four sanctioning bodies and the independent “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals”, track owner/promoter Glenn Styres has elected to crown the 1st ever Ohsweken Speedway Sprint Car Track Champion for 2005.

“We have a lot of cars competing here throughout the season” explained Styres. “I want to keep statistics of how many, who they are, where they are from and how often they support us” Styres went on. “If we are going to do all that, I feel we should assign points as well to determine a champion”. With that in mind, a point system has been developed to reward not only performance, but also consistency.

“We thought that we would try this and see how it works out – some of the teams who run here all of t he time, should have an advantage, but I just want to see how it looks” included Styres.

After two of the eleven events are in the record books, Styres himself, leads the sprint points by 18 over Jack Pillon, with Jim Porter, Craig Downing and Mark Schultz rounding out the top 5. All five have competed in both events.
