CASCAR: Cathcart’s run marred by bad luck

LONDON, ON - There was plenty of enthusiasm and excitement in the air for Bryan Cathcart and the Meyers Transport/Peterborough Homes/Parkview Homes car for the Mopar 250, round number one of the CASCAR Super Series at Delaware Speedway this past weekend.

After only running select events last season, the 2003 rookie of the year prepared for his full-time return to Canada’s top level of stock car racing. The first task was securing a qualifying spot in time trials Saturday afternoon. Bryan was able to wheel to Meyers Transport/Peterborough Homes/Parkview Homes Dodge to the 17th quickest time.

When the green flag waved Bryan knew the key was to stay out of trouble in the early going to have a chance to show well in the late stages. While Bryan Cathcart was able to maneuver his Mopar powered Dodge around early incidents on the track trouble found him. On lap 36 Bryan sustained a flat tire. While the change was made quickly that was not the end of the problems. Yet another flat forced Bryan to bring the Meyers Transport/Peterborough Homes/Parkview Homes Dodge to pit road once again on lap 85.

Unfazed by the string of bad breaks Bryan Cathcart set out to complete the Mopar 250 and put in a strong showing. In the second portion of the race Bryan made smart moves, and gained positions and brought home a solid 12th place finish. “The car was very nice to drive once we got past the tire issues” he stated afterwards. “We were running faster times than we did during the Mopar Day of testing, and I know if we didn’t have the flat tires we’d for sure be in the top ten”.

The next event for the CASCAR Super Series is June 4th at the Autodrome St. Eustache. “I’m really looking forward to getting back at it” said Cathcart. “I like the track, and if we continue to improve we can definitely achieve our next goal of getting a top five finish”.
