Girls Soccer: Broad Run, Heritage and Woodgrove All Advance to State Semifnals

(June 8, 2011) - 3-time defending AA girl soccer state champion Broad Run High School advancing to the state semifinals in Radford with an easy 5-1 win over Jamestown Tuesday did not raise many eyebrows.

On the other hand, first-year Woodgrove, a school with no seniors and the No. 6 seed in the Dulles District, winning 4-1 on the road at Warhill to advance to Radford was certainly surprising.

Softball: Briar Woods and Woodgrove Advance to State Semifinals for First Time

(June 8, 2011) - Loudoun will send two softball teams to the Virginia High School League AA state semifinals Friday at Radford after Briar Woods, behind junior Macy Jones' pitching gem, and Woodgrove, behind a sixth inning rally, both advanced.

It is the first trip to the Final Four for both Briar Woods (23-4) and first-year Woodgrove (24-4).

Lacrosse: Loudoun Teams Fight Hard but Fall in State Quarterfinals

(June 7, 2011) - Three Loudoun lacrosse team battled over the weekend in the VHSL state quarterfinals but the Briar Woods High School boys and Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove girls all saw their seasons come to a close.

Boys Lacrosse: Albemarle 9, Briar Woods 7
The Falcons led, 6-1, at the half but couldn't not stop Albemarle for the big comeback.

News: First-Year Woodgrove Names Athletes of the Year - Fuller, Gilson, Crowley and Wells all Honored

Purcellville (June 6, 2011) - First-year Woodgrove High School has announced its end of the year honors with Ellen Fuller named Outstanding Female Athlete, Brad Gilson named Outstanding Male Athlete and the Scholar Athletes of the Year awards went to Michele Crowley and Brendan Wells

Girls Soccer: Broad Run Girls Win 5th Straight Region II Title

Ashburn (June 4, 2011) - The Broad Run High School girls soccer team clinched their fifth consecutive Region II title with a convincing 5-1 win over Dulles District rival Woodgrove Friday night.

Basketball: State Bids on the Line Tonight in Regional Semifinals

Gymnastics: Freedom's Kaylee Annello Takes 6th in the All-Around at AA State Meet



(Feb. 23, 2011) - Freedom High School's Kaylee Annello took sixth in the All-Around at the AA state meet last weekend in Virginia Beach with a 37.000 score that included sixth place finishes on both the beam and floor.

Annello scored 9.450 on the beam and 9.475 on the floor. The VHSL open state meet for individuals includes competitors from A, AA and AAA levels.
