News: Loudoun County Honors 13 to Play in College

(June 7, 2011) - Loudoun County High School gathered all of their Class of 2011 College Bound Student Athletes for a group photo. All of these young men and women have committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Girls Basketball: Stone Bridge Hires Stuart's Gaffney to Take Reigns of Program

(June 2, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School has hired J.E.B. Stuart's girls varsity coach Thomas Gaffney to take the reigns of the Bulldogs program which went 23-4 last season under Chris Jones, who stepped down after the season. Gaffney, previously an assistant coach at Fairfax High School for three years, went 0-23 in his one year at Stuart.

Girls Basketball: Broad Run Hires JV Boys Coach Chris Pasternak as New Coach

(June 2, 2011) - Broad Run High School has hired boys junior varsity coach Chris Pasternak as the school's new girls basketball varsity coach.

In other hiring news, Loudoun Valley wrestling coach Troy Mezzatesta, will coach the Vikings golf team in the fall, taking over for long-time coach Gary McKay.

Youth Sports - AAU Basketball Tryouts Scheduled

(Mar. 8, 2011) - AAU basketball tryouts are coming up around the county starting with the FLEXX All Stars program which will hold tryouts tonight, March 8, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. for 11U (5th grade) and 10U (4th grade) boys at the FLEXX Sports and Entertainment Center in Lansdowne.

A second tryout for 10U will be held Wed. March 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. and a second tryout for 11U will be held Thurs.

Basketball: Buzzer Beater Sends Potomac Falls Boys to State Semifinals; Loudoun County Girls Cruise into Final Four

(Mar. 5, 2011) - Senior Lukas Mihailovich's steal and layin with less than two seconds left Saturday gave the Potomac Falls High School boys a dramatic, 46-44, come-from-behind win over Tabb in the VHSL Division 4 state quarterfinals at Robinson High School. The defending state champion Panthers trailed by 13 points in the second half before fighting back into the contest.

Basketball: Loudoun County Girls, Potomac Falls Boys One Game Away from Final Four

(Mar. 5, 2011) - The Loudoun County High School girls and Potomac Falls High School boys basketball teams will take to the court today in VHSL Division 4 state quarterfinal action at Robinson High School in Fairfax. The Raider girls play Eastern View at 2:30 p.m. and the Panther boys play Tabb at 4:30 p.m.

A win advances the teams to the Final Four next week at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond.

Girls Basketball: Loudoun County's Brittany Batts Named Region II D4 Player of the Year, Fisher Earns Coach of the Year

(Feb. 28, 2011) - Region II Division 4 girls basketball champion Loudoun County High School swept honors in a vote of coaches with senior Brittany Batts named the Player of the Year and first-year coach Derek Fisher selected as Coach of the Year.

Freedom senior Dionna Scott earned first team honors as well.

Basketball: Loudoun County Girls, Potomac Falls Boys Set for State Quarterfinals Sat. Mar. 5 at Robinson High School

(Feb. 28, 2011) - Loudoun fans can catch a VHSL Division 4 state quarterfinal doubleheader Saturday at Robinson High School as the Loudoun County girls and Potomac Falls boys will play back-to-back at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The VHSL just released the full state quarterfinal super site schedule:

Girls Basketball: Batts Scores 31 to Lead Loudoun County to Regional Title

Basketball: Leesburg Christian Captures 1st ODACS State Title; Girls Finish 4th

(Feb. 27, 2011) - The Leesburg Christian boys basketball team captured its first ever ODACS state title on Saturday with a 59-49 victory over rival Heritage Christian in the finals at Faith Baptist in Fredericksburg.

Previously Leesburg Christian had combined for five state titles in soccer and baseball but this was the school's first boys basketball state title.

Basketball: Twin Titles as Both Loudoun County Girls, Potomac Falls Boys Claim Region II Division 4 Crowns

(Feb. 26, 2011) - It was twin Region II Division 4 titles for Loudoun basketball teams Saturday night as the Loudoun County High School girls went on the road and downed Liberty, 56-50, and Potomac Falls High School boys basketball brilliant senior class made their final appearance in the Panther Pit a memorable 96-58 blowout win over Liberty.

Girls Basketball: Foxcroft's Claire Andrews Named First Team All-DAC

Middleburg (Feb. 25, 2011) - Claire Andrews, a senior center who led the Foxcroft School basketball team with power, skill, and heart, has been named to the first team of the Division I All-Delaney Athletic Conference squad for the 2010-11 season, Athletic director Michelle Woodruff announced Friday.
