CASTROL CANADIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHT CELEBRATION WEEKEND AT MOSPORT

BOWMANVILLE, ON (September 25, 2007) - Another great season of regional racing comes to a close this weekend at Mosport's famed road course as amateur racers take to the track for the final time this season in the Mosport/CASC Celebration 2007 (Sept. 29-30).

Three class champions will be crowned in the inaugural season of the Castol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires. This sports car series is based on three distinct classes of competition which are all on track at the same time and feature drivers racing today's hottest sports cars. This is a doubleheader with 100 points per race to be awarded to the winner (plus bonus points for the fastest qualifiers and completed laps), so major changes in the final drivers' standings remain distinct possibilities.

In the high horsepower GT class, Corvettes, BMWs and a turbo Nissan battle for the top spot at speeds in excess of 250 km/h. Sasha Anis (Nissan) leads the class with 1523 points and Bob Munro (BMW) is holding down second spot with 1364 while Roberto Sabato (Corvette) sits in third, just behind Munro with 1307.

The Super Touring Class is the largest and features many of today's hottest brands, such as BMW, Acura, and Subaru. Despite their small motors these cars crank out more than 250 horsepower and have created some memorable moments on the track. Charles-Andre Bilodeau (BMW) leads the points chase with 1428 over his team-mate Etienne Borgeat (BMW) with 1236, while Ian Madden (VW) sits in third with 1130.

The entry level Touring class features some of the most popular and tunable cars on the street, the 150 – 200 horsepower cars that make for great door-to-door action on-track. Cars featured in this class include Mini, Honda, Mercedes Benz and Nissan. Alain Lauziere (Mini) leads the class with 1568 points followed by Rob Calisi (Honda) with 1420, while James Foote (Honda) is in third with 1383.

Celebration 2007 also offers a great opportunity to see future open-wheel racing stars. One of the series that features plenty of up and coming racers is the Ontario Formula Ford Championship (OFFC). Toronto's Matt White clinched this year's overall championship two weeks ago at Mosport after a close season-long battle with 2006 champ Shane Jantzi. By securing his first OFFC title and the Formula Car Magazine Can Am Cup, White has also earned a much coveted test later this fall the U.S. in one of Brian Stewart Racing's Indy Racing League Pro Series cars.

The weekend schedule also includes great racing featuring the open-wheel cars of Formula Libre and F1200s and the vintage coupes and sedans of the Vintage Historics and Group 70+ classes.
