NCATS: Pierre Bourque Gets Spun Out of a Top Finish at Cayuga

CONCORD, NC (September 2, 2007) – It was back to the ovals for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Pierre Bourque and his Whitlock Motorsports team on Saturday night for the running of the Subway 200 at Cayuga Speedway Park in Nelles Corners, Ontario. Bourque started 18th and finished 13th in the event.

As respectable as that result was, it could have been much better if not for some contact on the course.

"I am very proud of my Whitlock Motorsports crew,” said Bourque. “They gave me a top five car at Cayuga and we were gaining huge ground from my place on the grid, until I got spun trying to pass for sixth place at the half-way point of the 200-lap race.

“That flat-spotted my tires and I felt like I was skating around on ice with barely any grip. The car was quite a handful, but I kept it on the lead lap, picking off the odd spot or two whenever I could.’

The skating was the least of Bourque’s problems though, as he trucked on to the finish.

“Things got worse when the sway bar broke and I lost three or four laps when NASCAR called me in under the green flag to check it out with less than 20 to go. The most nagging part of the whole race is that the guy I was passing when I got spun went on to win the race. Under the circumstances, my 13th place finish was small consolation.”

Still the fact that Bourque’s loyal team and great sponsors put him in a position to win was cause to be happy.

“I need to thanks to my sponsors Driving.Ca, Canada.Com, Working.Com, Dose.Ca, Sonomax, and Immunotec for their support. We had a great car for the race and the effort that everyone put in really showed through.”

Bourque will now prepare to enter next weekend’s ARAC RE/MAX Series event at Chicagoland Speedway (IL), where he’ll drive an entry fielded by Fast Track Racing.

Bourque is splitting his time between the Whitlock Motorsports NASCAR Canadian Tire Series entry and Kevin Buckler's The Racers Group team in Grand-Am road racing. He also made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut last month at Indianapolis’ O’Reilly Raceway Park and will be making additional announcements on his future racing plans very shortly.
