NCATS: Tire Failure Frustrates Full Throttle Team

FULL THROTTLE TEAM SUFFERS TIRE FAILURE AT KAWARTHA

Brad Graham and the Full Throttle /Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts team knew they had a car that could run among the leaders in the final event of the 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racing season, The Dodge Charger 250 at Kawartha Speedway. Early on the team was demonstrating their capabilities. But a tire failure would end their day in disappointment.

As practice got under way at the exciting high banked speedway in Ontario cottage country Graham and the team had the Full Throttle Dodge running the way they expected. “The car felt really good all day” smiled the driver. “If the car is off it can be very tough to drive, but I didn’t experience any of that” added Graham.

The Full Throttle team would continue to show their muscle during qualifying coming as close as you can without scoring the top spot. Graham would run the second quickest lap, just one thousandth of a second behind the top runner. “I think if we had an extra coat of paint on the car we would have had the pole” joked Brad afterwards.

Despite just missing the top spot, the driver and team knew they had a car they could compete strongly with. “Everything we worked on had the results we expected and as long we stayed out of trouble then we knew a good finish was in the cards”.

As the green flag waved on the 250 lap feature event Graham had no difficulty maintaining a consistent pace and stayed comfortably in the top-five. “The track changed the way we expected and we were ready for it” said Graham. “We were in good shape”.

The Full Throttle team made their scheduled pit stop for fuel and two right side tires and returned the driver to the battle with a strong car, ready to challenge right to the finish. Sadly a tire failure would end their night prematurely. “We were just cruising along, not pushing the car too hard waiting to make our move and without any warning I was in the wall” said the disappointed driver. “We definitely had a top-five car, there was plenty left but these things happen now and then. When that tire went down we hit the outside wall pretty hard and did a lot of damage underneath, our night was over. It’s too bad because we really wanted to finish the season with a finish we deserved. I’m very pleased though that Dodge was able to clinch the manufacturer’s cup”.

Next up, Brad Graham and the Full Throttle/Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts Team will be attending the year end celebration of the inaugural season for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, October 13th in Toronto, ON.
