Strachan wins President’s Trophy at Mosport

After missing the majority of the 2007 season, Malcolm Strachan left no doubt as to who was the leader of the pack. With the Mobil-1 Corvette fully fitted with a new engine lubrication system, as well as some other little tweaks, Strachan dominated the Labour Day weekend.

Qualifying had Strachan’s Mobil-1 Corvette on pole, ahead of Nick Majors’ Dodge Viper Competition Coupe. Race One was a comfortable win for the Prince Edward County driver, winning by eight seconds over Majors. Race Two provided a small amount of tension, with lapped cars allowing Majors to close the gap to Strachan with two laps to go. Strachan responded with two quick laps to pull out a comfortable lead at the finish.

For the final race, Strachan wanted to better the best lap-time for the Mobil-1 Corvette, which was 1:24.252. At the green-flag, the Mobil-1 Corvette rocketed into the lead, pushing as hard as possible. By the third lap, Strachan held the lead that stretched the full front straightaway. Strachan settled into a comfortable, yet quick pace, and eventually won with a margin of victory nearing 20 seconds, with an average race speed of over 162 km/h. Strachan also managed to shatter his personal best time, with a stellar fastest-lap of 1:23.793.

Strachan will return to Mosport on September 15/16 for the BEMC Indian Summer Trophy Races, and will finish the season at Mont-Tremblant on September 22/23 for the Fall Classic.
