Nelles Corners, Ontario- Jason Hathaway and Team 3 Red/EHR competed in the ninth race of the season this Saturday night in the Subway 200- at Cayuga Speedway Park near Hamilton. Returning to the oval tracks on the 2007 Canadian Tire Series, Team 3 Red/EHR set the bar high for the night aiming for a top 5 finish in the event.
The #3 Snap on Tools Dodge looked great in practice on Saturday afternoon. Jason was comfortable with his race car after practice. "The car feels pretty stable all the way around the track. It should be pretty good for the race tonight."
In front of a great crowd at Cayuga Speedway Park, Team 3 Red started in the 12th position. As the race got underway it was obvious that the 200 laps were going to be action filled. The Team's plan was to let the field shake out a little and get into a comfortable race pace on the 5/8 mile paved oval.
At the half way point of the race, Hathaway was battling back from going one lap down to the leaders after a back marker spun Hathaway in corner #1. The Team bought the car in for inspection after the spin, changing a right rear tire and filling the car with fuel. Hathaway worked his way back up to the 13th spot after the pit stop. With great driving and some perseverance, the Team received the "Lucky Dog" award on lap 153 earning their lap back.
The last 47 laps of the race were great for Hathaway as his aggressive, yet smart style of driving shone through making some great passes gaining valuable positions. With team spotter Mark Busse helping from the spotter's stand, Hathaway made it safely through one final crash as the field took the checkered flag and finished 9th in the field of 24 cars.
Crew Chief Giulio Montanari discussed their evening. "We had a good night tonight. The car was great in practice, but the dropping temperature of the cool evening changed the race track. As the night went on we could not compensate for the temperature change in the handling of the race car. We are proud of our Team and will take our 9th place proudly representing all of our great supporters and corporate partners."
The next event for Jason Hathaway and the #3 Snap on Tools Dodge will be at the cozy 1/3-mile Barrie Speedway oval next Saturday night, September 8, 2007. The last time the Team visited the track, their car was strong and the Team is looking forward to a great finish.
