Montreal, September 4th, 2007 – It was in Mosport Ontario on September 1st and 2nd that the Twofast Racing team was for one more Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship race of the year in the Super Touring class. With a lot of ups and down for the Mazda and another prestigious podium for the Subaru, everything lets us think that the team will keep its very good top 5 position for the final 2007 standings.
The driver of the number 04 MAZDA, Christian Raymond explains : « During the Saturday practice, I got off line in corner 8 cause I wanted to let another car by, but ended up losing the rear end and smashing in to the wall. It gave my mechanics a bit of a hard time! I got a good qualifying session, I made my best time of the year on this track. Nevertheless, I went off again this time in corner 2, which again gave a little work to my crew members. We took the decision to install new tyres in the back only to stabilize it a bit, which proved to be a poor choice, I was glued to the track and a lot of drivers passed me... »
For Sunday’s race, Raymond follows: « I began in 12th position but I was stopped since I forget to put my safety net up. I got black flagged, and had to start last. After coming up to the 8th position in the ST class, my transmission broke a little after the midway of the race. It was the first DNF of the season and first major mechanical failure as well, so it’s hard to complain, these things happen. »
Éric Leblanc, driver of the number 140 Subaru WRX/STI, came back with yet another podium, finishing 3rd. In spite of the 5th position gained in the qualifying session considered a bit deceptive, Eric says: « I had a good start in the pre-final race but I lost some positions in the first turns. I started the final race in 6th position. I had a small battle with Steve Anderson’s SRT4 car, which allowed me to get in 5th position for almost all the race. I finally ended in 3rd position, thanks to the first two drivers taking each other out ! »
In brief, Christian keeps positive and hopes to stay in the top 5 position for the final standings but he will have to fight since a few drivers got closer to him in the points this weekend. « At least, I had all possible bad lucks happen had the same time, hopefully we wont have anymore for this season! » he says to us. As for Eric, even if the 1st place in the Championship seems unreachable, he intends to keep is well deserved 2nd place !
The next race of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship will once again be in Mosport, on September 15th and 16th.
