WAR AMPS KEY TAGS AT WORK IN ONTARIO!
Keith Hepburn, Red Knights Ontario Chapter 3
SHALLOW LAKE, ON, August 20, 2005 B The War Amps, a leader in the field of child safety, is hosting an important safety display today at 8:00 a.m. at the meet and greet breakfast and registration at Shouldice Designer Stone located on RR 2 in Shallow Lake, to highlight the CHAMP and PLAYSAFE/DRIVESAFE Programs today.
Rob Larman, Director of its PLAYSAFE/DRIVESAFE Program who lost a leg at age 14 after friends dared him to jump a train, will be hosting the display, and making the 213 km trek joining the convoy of classic and vintage cars, rigs, haulers and motorcycles, leaving Shallow Lake at 10:00 a.m. and arriving at the Barrie Speedway at 2:00 p.m. “The Alstar Motorcycle Charity Ride is a wonderful opportunity that will increase public awareness in many communities throughout the Georgian Bay Region and send the message loud and clear to DRIVESAFE,” said Larman.
This ride is in honour of Mitzi, aged 21, and her father, Brent Hepburn, who both lost their left leg in 2003 in a motorcycle accident. They had such positive experiences with The War Amps that the idea of a charity ride with all proceeds being donated to the Association was conceived. This is the first “Ride With Us Tour” and they hope to make it an annual event. They will be presenting a cheque to Rob Larman at the Barrie Speedway.
Parade floats, displays and presentations are part of The War Amps national safety campaign which includes documentaries featuring the stories of Champs who lost limbs in accidents, a safety CD-ROM and public service messages. The War Amps receives no government grants and its programs are made possible through public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service.
