OHSWEKEN: Zimbardi atop the Sprint points after two rounds

Zimbardi Atop Ohsweken Sprint Standings After 2 Rounds

by Tommy Goudge (May 25, 2008) -

Salamanca, New York's Jared Zimbardi has been in contention for the feature win in each of the first two rounds of Ohsweken Speedway's Friday Night Thunder. He hasn't made it to victory lane yet, but there is a reward for being in contention each week. On the strength of a 3rd place finish on opening night, and a 2nd place finish this past Friday, The Juice leads the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division points standings by 11 markers over Alton, Ontario's Keith Dempster.

Despite a crash on Friday night, Niagara Falls driver Fast Fred Cade sits 3rd in points, tied with Kevin Job of Campbellville, while last week's feature winner and Ohsweken Speedway co-owner Glenn Styres rounds out the top 5. Ryan Hunsinger is tied for 7th with Grand Island, New York's Jim Porter and also leads the Rookie of the Year standings after a strong 4th place finish on Friday night. The Gunslinger is 65 points ahead of fellow Hamiltonian Mikey Kruchka, who ranks 16th in overall points after qualifying for his first sprint car A Feature on Friday night. The Rookie of the Year standings are sure to heat up as the season goes on, as rookie sprint car drivers Barry Beck, Jr., John Burbridge, Jr., Chris Hettinger, Dave Dykstra, Rob Ledingham, and Kris Root have all accumulated Ohsweken championship points thus far.

A top-10 finish in the overall Corr/Pak Sprint Car points standings this season will be the goal of many racers, as the top 10 drivers with track memberships will be eligible to receive a portion of the substantial Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car championship point fund. Round 3 for the Corr/Pak Sprint Cars takes the green flag this coming Friday, May 30 when Trailers by Jim Bray presents the first special event of the Ohsweken season with the Fun Stocks, ESSO Mini Stocks, and ESSO Thunder Stocks, along with the first of 2 scheduled visits by the Modified Lite Star Championship Tour North. Friday Night Thunder Adult general admission is just $10 while Kids 12 and under are FREE! Please visit www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for more information.
