Carpentier, Villeneuve Fail in Bid to Make Daytona 500 Field

By Inside Track Staff

Canadian racing fans were left disappointed when both Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Carpentier(above) failed to Qualify for the Daytona 500 on Sunday during the second of the two Gatorade Dual 150's on Thursday.

Vileneuve's was beset by handling problems at the start of the race and on Lap 16, after being passed by John Andretti, Villeneuve lost control of his Toyota, hitting the wall and dashing his hopes of competing on Sunday.

Carpentier appeared to have a strong car but picked up a vibration later in the race and ultimately fell out of contention for a race spot.

Both drivers will be back in action at the California Speedway next week.
