Remember earlier this summer when the Liberal Party of Canada and members of the mainstream media blew a gasket when Pierre Bourque showed up for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Mosport with sponsorship from the Conservatives?
Fast forward to the fall of THE SAME YEAR and guess who is dominating the ad space atop Bourque's Newswatch site?
You guessed it... the Ontario Liberal Party, who have purchased the space to beg for donations to save the province from John Tory's evil "scheme."
Back in June, I said there was no difference in Bourque selling space on his website and space on his car. TV stations and newspapers sell ads to competing parties and a page of newsprint and the hood of a car are both advertising 'vehicles'.
I had no issue with the Tories using their own money to buy space on Bourque's car, and I have no issue with the Liberals using their own money to buy space on his website.
But given all the finger-pointing by the federal Liberals and the political press on Father's Day at Mosport, I'd like someone from one of these groups to explain to me how the car sponsorship was wrong, but this online purchase by the provincial Libs is OK.
Because I hope the difference is something other than the notion that it's OK for Liberals to advertise, but not for Conservatives....
