Twins’ Mauer Calls Knee Shots No Big Deal

Joe Mauer played down questions about his left knee last week, saying the shots are part of the recovery of lubricant after offseason surgery.

To the dismay of Mauer, Minnesota Twins, Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday the star receiver is the shot in the knee to help lubricate the joint. He had surgery after last season to reduce the swelling that bothered him for much of the year.

"It is more a preventive thing, just to make sure I'm good to go for the season," said Mauer before the first practice at full strength. "So it's really no big deal and I wish this type was not there. But we're here. "

Mauer does it easy the next day or two for the first shot came into force. He says he will spend three or four in the series, which will be taken once a week. The plan is to limit its decision early in camp. It will not catch the live batting practice, and Gardenhire said he probably will not be captured when the exhibition games begin.

"I want to make sure we clean the knee before we get something," Gardenhire said Tuesday.

Mauer said he was not sure when it starts to grab the sports or games. He realizes that the All-Star Catcher, beginning eight years a contract extension of $ 184000000 in this season, there will always be concerned about the health of his knee.

But Mauer is doing everything possible to allay these concerns Wednesday, saying the treatment is common among athletes. Twins starter Nick Blackburn had a series of similar shots years ago and said he felt very well all season Mauer.
