BRIGHTON & MERRITTVILLE: 2007 Duel in the Dirt Battle Heating Up


Now in its 4th season the popular Duel in the Dirt Battle between Brighton Speedway’s Pro Stocks and Merrittville Speedway’s Hoosier Stocks is shaping up to be a fierce fight. With the home track events now out of the way the points are set to take the competitor in the final two legs of the Lawns We Do/DL Services 2007 Dual in the Dirt Championship.

“This is where is gets fun, the invaders come in and battle for the big bucks!” says Brighton Promoter Mark Rinaldi. The first of the combined events is a $1,000.00 to win, 50 lap race, to be help at Brighton Speedway on Sunday September 2nd during Brighton Speedway’s annual Labour Day Classic.

For the second combined event Brighton drivers will head west and descend upon the Merrittville Speedway in hopes of taking their top prize of $1,000.00 to win. That race will take place at the St. Catherine’s speed plant on Friday September 2nd.

It doesn’t end with the back to back $1,000.00 races! After all is said and done the one lucky driver that is deemed the over all Lawns we Do/DL Services Duel in the Dirt Champion will get an additional $1,000.00 for his/her combined efforts. “And we are sharing the wealth” says Merrittville Speedway GM Erica Bicknell. “This year the overall points fund has been increased and will pay back the top 20 positions, up from the traditional 10 spots in the combined points in years past” explains Erica. In total, drivers will compete for over $16,500.00 in purse and points fund for the 2007 Edition of the Duel in the Dirt.

To top it all off teams have a chance at some extra cash. All drivers that have 100% attendance for the races they were eligible to race will be entered into the hat for four $100.00 100% participation draws.

At present going into the two combined events Cody MacPherson of Merrittville holds down top position with a slim 2 point lead over Brighton hot shoe Ronnie “the Rocket” Wadforth. It will be tight points battles with less than 20 points separating the top 12 cars in the overall standings.
