The hub at Barnard Castle
Clugston Construction, one of the North’s leading privately owned building and civil engineering contractors, is pleased to announce that one of its recently completed projects scooped three awards at the Constructing Excellence North East (CENE) awards 2011. The awards, which included the most prestigious - ‘Project of the Year’ - were all for The hub, a new multi-purpose facility developed by Teesdale Community Resources and designed by and for young people, at Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham.

In winning the Project of the Year award, the judges acknowledged the team’s commitment to the highest level of technical achievement, innovation and application of best practice, as well as, team working throughout the supply chain.

Clugston Construction also won The Legacy Award, which was presented to the company for demonstrating the principles of sustainable construction during delivery of the project and included social, economic and environmental considerations.
The community facility aimed at 13-19 year olds, also won Achiever of the Year award for Keith “Joe” Jones of Teesdale Community Resources, the driving force behind the development of The hub.

Winners were selected across 12 categories from more than 80 entrants, including innovation, integration, value and sustainability and will go on to compete in the National Constructing Excellence Awards held every year in the autumn.
Over the last five years the awards have grown to become one of the highlights of the year, with over 500 people regularly attending to witness the cream of the region’s construction projects receiving their well deserved awards.
CENE is a business support organisation for the North East construction industry, dedicated to delivering improved industry performance in order to achieve a better built environment.
Steve Waggett regional manager at Clugston Construction said,
“The hub is a truly ground breaking scheme, providing a vast array of exciting activities for young people in the local community, also incorporating innovative design features, such a meadow grass roof, which harmoniously blends into the local environment. We are delighted it is receiving the recognition it deserves.”
